Artist's Comments

Saw this a piece of amazingly clean line art in VKahri's gallery, and looking at his physical design, what with all those wicked thorny-looking spikes, well, I just HAD to color him! If you'd like to comment the line art, please visit VKahri's original black-and-white work: [link]

Now, when V gave me permission to color this, she mentioned that she really didn't want to see a green, red, white, black or gray gargoyle, since those colors were very common with fandom gargoyles, and even blue and pruple were seen quite often with all the Goliath and Demona work floating aorund DA. So I sat down and thought to myself, what's left? Well, a sort of bronze tone hit me over the head, and it worked very well, I feel, particularly with the bright red wing sails to enhance it. :D My scanner paled the colors a smidge, but otherwise it's accurate. Gave him green eyes just because, well, everyone loves green eyes, and black hair because you can get away with doing black without shadows, and by that time I was getting lazy... I'm a terrible person, yes. The face shadowing is not exactly what I had planned, but oh well, live and learn. :D

WOW his colors turned out VERY nicely! i'm quite impressed! i really like it, kudos to you! i like the pants they look like some well worn in jeans. and even as much as the wing color stands out.. it just seems to suit him. i may just stick with these colors when i attempt this in photoshop [been trying to get myself to go back to all my line arts and do a photshop coloring]. i might tone down the wings to a bit more of a reddish than this though you did say the scanner messed with them a bit. anywho i'm lov'n it! :D

Thank you!

Yeah, *Beans Fido in whatever region is equivalent to a head on a scanner.* the colors got a few shades washed out with the scanning, I was scared to adjust it though in case it turned out even more off-color, as the red on Ari and Brooklyn did for Timedancer Family - Color. Red is such a hard color to work with, I find... O_O So, yeah, everything on the original's a little darker, and the shade of the wings is just a little less !RED! if you know what I mean...

You've colored this really well :) And I like the choice of colors, too. They go nicely together.

Thank you! Believe it or not, it took about four to six layers of color (gold, green and two shades of brown all done over and over again) before I got just the "bronze" effect I wanted. :D

*nods* You did a great job! ^^ I've found it can take a really long time to get pencil stuff looking as you want it to, but in the end it can really be worth it.
:icondancingdragon:
Kudos to that!

Thank you very much! :D I wanted to go for a unique color that not many people would think of, so the bronze seemed like a good idea. :D
